William Keck of TV Guide posted some major spoilers today, which makes mention Callie and Arizona. Find out after the jump!
After being terrorized by a crazed gunman (and off-camera, by unhappy costars who have since left the show), the docs of Seattle Grace-Mercy West Hospital are healed and happy once again. I can genuinely report that the same happiness and gratitude exist on the Grey's Anatomy set, where I was the first reporter invited to get the scoop on Season 7.
~~~~~ Hmm... which couple indeed? To be honest, I don't think it makes sense (nor necessarily healthy) for any of the above couples to get engaged and married in one episode, considering the serious issues each pairing had in the season finale (notwithstanding the time jump). First of all, an Alex and Lexie pairing is not meant to last because they have always set it up to have a Lexie/Mark endgame, at least to me. The fact that neither seems to truly be in love with the other just spells disaster. And Alex already went through with a spur-of-the-moment wedding in recent history that didn't turn out well, so there is really no novelty as far as his character is concerned. An Alex/Lexie marriage will just be Shonda & Co. creating soapy drama for lack of a better storyline for either character (though, it has been known to happen before). Hope it's not them. I have a feeling it's not. As for Owen and Cristina, I feel a strong possibility that it may be them. The official word is that the triangle from hell is dead, so what better way to show it? Granted, I really don't think they are ready for it given Owen's relatively recent conflicted feelings for Teddy, but marriage could be a way for the writers to create a new storyline for Owen/Cristina. Plus, after the trauma (and possible denial that she's all right), I see Cristina wanting to do something drastic and life-affirming. In this TV Guide interview with Shonda, she said, "Callie and Arizona are going to be together; I don't know if happy is the right word. We're going to see them struggle with their relationship, where it's going and what that means for them. The reality of the situation is that they are two people who are trying to settle down together and figure out what that means. That's going to be really interesting to watch unfold." With the kids issue unresolved, I would hate to see them rush into marriage. Jumping into it while not being necessarily being happy just spells trouble down the road and something I'd rather not see them go through. And given how slowly they have been developing their relationship, I see the writers taking marriage between these two seriously. Not to mention, Shonda did tweet that they will get married when it is legal, so it seems like this concept is somewhat of a big deal to them. Then again, I am not discounting the fact that Shonda is known to change her mind... As far as that spoiler about Callie popping the question and Arizona freaking out over it, the timing does seem too coincidental not to be them. But then, Jessica mentioned in part 2 of her Fancast intervew that they "actually pick up with them at less of a fever pitch. The other characters got the lion’s share of the drama, so they’re all easing back into the nuts and bolts of what’s going to happen next." Given this and Shonda's quote, I can see Callie and Arizona discussing what it means for them, especially with the kids thing not having been sorted, while seeing another couple getting wedding. What if it's Owen and Cristina getting married in the season premiere, which inspires a knee-jerk reaction on Callie's part to propose to AZ in the same episode or a couple of eps later?
I'm wondering it the couple getting married is Meredith and Derek...with them talking about having kids they may want to make it more legal than a post it and they seem to be the only couple ready at the moment
