Major spoilers from TV Guide E-mail

William Keck of TV Guide posted some major spoilers today, which makes mention Callie and Arizona. Find out after the jump!

After being terrorized by a crazed gunman (and off-camera, by unhappy costars who have since left the show), the docs of Seattle Grace-Mercy West Hospital are healed and happy once again. I can genuinely report that the same happiness and gratitude exist on the Grey's Anatomy set, where I was the first reporter invited to get the scoop on Season 7.

Derek Steps Down as Chief

In the September 23 premiere, scenes will flash back to post-trauma therapy sessions held a few weeks after the shootings, then jump ahead about two months. Derek (Patrick Dempsey) is released from the hospital, still unaware of Meredith's pregnancy and miscarriage. "I think he'll be devastated," says Patrick. "Seeing how quick life can be, I think they'll want to have a child even more. Why not create a life before you lose your own?" To that end, Derek calls a staff meeting to announce he never enjoyed being chief and is returning the reins to Dr. Webber. "He's still in mourning over the loss of the staffers [in the shoot-out] and feels responsible, which is why he steps down," adds Patrick. "It's much better having the dynamic the way it was."

Teddy's New Guy

With the Owen/Cristina/Teddy love triangle over, Teddy (Kim Raver) won't waste any time cuddling up to the hospital's new trauma counselor, Dr. Andrew Perkins (James Tupper). "I make out with him in Episode 1," says a tickled Kim. "It was just like it was with Kiefer [Sutherland] on 24, where we met and had to kiss. Teddy's going to wonder if she's feeling so good in the relationship just because he's a therapist."

They Do! But Who?

One of these couples gets engaged
and married in the premiere. Try to figure out who, based on these clues from the cast. And look for at least one or two of the parents of the betrothed to turn up for the nuptials.

Callie and Arizona?

"The relationship takes the steps you take as you get deeper involved with someone," hints Sara Ramirez (Callie). "But Callie's been married, so that could pose an issue." Adds Jessica Capshaw (Arizona), "I don't see Arizona entering into anything that's not ironclad."

Alex and Lexie?

Lexie suffered a breakdown and big sis Meredith is helping her cope. Alex opted to keep his near-fatal bullet inside his chest "to show off to the girls like a third nipple," says Justin Chambers (Alex). They're hardly a couple ready for marriage, though Justin says Alex would marry Lexie if he "knocked her up."

Owen and Cristina?
"They definitely take it to the next level," teases Kevin McKidd (Owen). "The wedding could easily be them." But Cristina will be dealing with post-traumatic stress — not a good time to go dress shopping. "They've been through a huge amount in two seasons," notes Kevin, "and I think Cristina felt burned by her last wedding [to Burke]."

~~~~~
Hmm... which couple indeed? To be honest, I don't think it makes sense (nor necessarily healthy) for any of the above couples to get engaged and married in one episode, considering the serious issues each pairing had in the season finale (notwithstanding the time jump).
First of all, an Alex and Lexie pairing is not meant to last because they have always set it up to have a Lexie/Mark endgame, at least to me. The fact that neither seems to truly be in love with the other just spells disaster. And Alex already went through with a spur-of-the-moment wedding in recent history that didn't turn out well, so there is really no novelty as far as his character is concerned. An Alex/Lexie marriage will just be Shonda & Co. creating soapy drama for lack of a better storyline for either character (though, it has been known to happen before). Hope it's not them. I have a feeling it's not.
As for Owen and Cristina, I feel a strong possibility that it may be them. The official word is that the triangle from hell is dead, so what better way to show it? Granted, I really don't think they are ready for it given Owen's relatively recent conflicted feelings for Teddy, but marriage could be a way for the writers to create a new storyline for Owen/Cristina. Plus, after the trauma (and possible denial that she's all right), I see Cristina wanting to do something drastic and life-affirming.
In this TV Guide interview with Shonda, she said, "Callie and Arizona are going to be together; I don't know if happy is the right word. We're going to see them struggle with their relationship, where it's going and what that means for them. The reality of the situation is that they are two people who are trying to settle down together and figure out what that means. That's going to be really interesting to watch unfold."
With the kids issue unresolved, I would hate to see them rush into marriage. Jumping into it while not being necessarily being happy just spells trouble down the road and something I'd rather not see them go through. And given how slowly they have been developing their relationship, I see the writers taking marriage between these two seriously. Not to mention, Shonda did tweet that they will get married when it is legal, so it seems like this concept is somewhat of a big deal to them. Then again, I am not discounting the fact that Shonda is known to change her mind...
As far as that spoiler about Callie popping the question and Arizona freaking out over it, the timing does seem too coincidental not to be them. But then, Jessica mentioned in part 2 of her Fancast intervew that they "actually pick up with them at less of a fever pitch. The other characters got the lion’s share of the drama, so they’re all easing back into the nuts and bolts of what’s going to happen next." Given this and Shonda's quote, I can see Callie and Arizona discussing what it means for them, especially with the kids thing not having been sorted, while seeing another couple getting wedding. What if it's Owen and Cristina getting married in the season premiere, which inspires a knee-jerk reaction on Callie's part to propose to AZ in the same episode or a couple of eps later?
    I'm wondering it the couple getting married is Meredith and Derek...with them talking about having kids they may want to make it more legal than a post it and they seem to be the only couple ready at the moment
  • Admin
    That was my first thought, too, except that the article says that it's one of the couples they listed there. Unless they are duping us completely...
    Honestly, I would like it to be Meredith and Derek. Mostly because I do fee for their long-suffering shippers. :P
    I totally agree with you, Admin. I think that Shonda and co. think highly of the Calzona-relationship and wouldn't want to jeopardise it by rushing into some brash marriage.
    I think it'll probably be Hunt and Cristina. As much as I detest them as a couple (and Hunt as a character), at least with them married, it'll open up the apartment for AZ to move in (officially!).
    Whoa! Those were some spoilers there! Can't help but to be excited for the SP!
    And am on your camp Meg! I agree with your comments. Hehe. While am so excited on the wedding I don't want to see it rushed too like in one episode all at once. Hmm.. Would love to see some progress towards it.
    AaahHH!!! Callie and Arizona! And the whole cast! Am just sooooooo excited to see them all back in action and drama and the banter between them! :P :lol:
    Oh! And am I the only one excited about Teddy here? Haha. I love Teddy and I want her to be happy too. So glad she's out of the triangle.
    A wedding would have been the very last thing I expected and to be honest I don't much like the idea for either of the couples mentioned above. :dry: I find it takes a lot of dynamic out of their relationships.
    The girls - yes, definitly, at some point in the future that would be wonderful but now is definitely not the time, is it?
    Alex and Lexie - really? Getting married? (Thank you but no thank you - I'd rather see Lexie back with Mark. :) )
    And Owen and Cristina - maybe that would make some sense but not a whole lot, I don't think (?). When just the other day Owen wasn't even sure what or whom he wanted?
    I would have thought that maybe MerDer might make their post-it official - but even that - nawwwwwww... Overall I do not trust these spoilers a whole lot. I think Shonda is going to surprise us all yet! B)
    I'm 99% sure it won't be Calzona getting married, I just can't see either of them wanting to take that bigger step. The baby issue is still there and Arizona has trust issues. Plus JCap keeps talking about making it authentic, getting married wouldn't be authentic for their characters. My money is on hunt and yang!
  • Anonymous
    being authentic...
    in real life, couples don't really deal with all their issues and then move forward! most of the time, they kinda rush, take a big decision and then deal with these 'issues' how they can best do...
    it won't b 100% realistic and authentic to expect them 2 b smart n taking things slowly...
    cud b them, the couple getting married... CALZONA
  • mfeo
    I'm not sure what Jcap's comment about Callie already having been married being an issue...she knew that before she even dated Callie...anyone have any idea what that comment would mean?
  • ukfan
    I think it goes back the the whole "When you convince me that you're in love with me and not with being in love". Callie has been married before so with Arizona's "trust issues" she could feel this is just another thing Callie does. Thats the impression I get from this, Callie being married before would bring up a whole heap of problems for both for them!
  • Gauze paws
    In reality none of these couple should even be thinking about going down the marriage route... Lexie still has feelings for mark and is probably going mad with feeling responsible for Alex who's still in love with izzy. Cristina and Owen were split up as were Callie and Arizona and still have a mountain of issue to work thru.... If they were friends I'd be keeping the receipt on the wedding gift... However it's grey's so you know Alex could marry lexie with Denny as his best man.... Not long to wait now though:D
  • thingforchickens
    None of them should get married in REALITY...Although I would LOVE to see Callie and Arizona married some day...Maybe the wedding takes place in a DREAM for one of these couples...
